"Patent Pending" by Heavens

If you ever find yourself driving in Los Angeles after midnight, turn your dial to Indie 103.1-- they've got the best nighttime playlist of any station in the area (aside from 88.1 KKJZ). I can't tell you how many awesome songs I've come to know from these late night listening sessions (for a comprehensive posting of all Indie 103 playlists, check out www.yes.com. They feature all the playlists for 2600 radio stations and tv shows around the country. A great site).

It was last night around 1:53 am that I flipped to my beloved 103.1 and came across this great track from relatively new Heavens. A side-project for Alkaline Trio frontman Matt Skiba and his housemate Josiah Steinbrick (of F-Minus fame), Heavens released their first album (also called Patent Pending) this past September.

This isn't close to one of my favorite songs, nor is it anything all that innovative. However, I'm noticing that this kind of song is becoming more and more popular--Sort of streamlined rock songs with simple basslines, riffing 8th note guitars, baritone vocalists and haunting yet catchy choruses. For more of this sort, check out "Munich" by Editors or "Nature of the Experiment" by Tokyo Police Club.

Let me know what you guys think of this track! Do we like?
